- Post-MD physicians with PGY status

- Applicants whose residency ends before the project end date
- Principal investigators who hold a PhD but not an MD

- Personnel salaries and benefits for technicians, technologists, research assistants, trainees, and students
- Project-related equipment, materials, and supplies
- Publication costs, including open-access fees and reprints
- Conference travel for scientific presentations
- Other direct project expenses, including research activity travel
