Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Resident physicians in Ontario
  • Post-MD physicians with PGY status
  • Ontario medical research applicants

Who is not eligible

  • Residents based outside Ontario
  • Clinical fellows
  • Applicants whose residency ends before the project end date
  • Principal investigators who hold a PhD but not an MD

Eligible expenses

  • Personnel salaries and benefits for technicians, technologists, research assistants, trainees, and students
  • Project-related equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Publication costs, including open-access fees and reprints
  • Conference travel for scientific presentations
  • Other direct project expenses, including research activity travel

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Overhead and indirect costs
  • Salary support for the resident or named investigators
  • Major equipment, unless required for the supported project
  • Operating costs, budget deficits, membership fees, entertainment, and hospitality
  • Projects conducted outside Ontario

    • The Grants Committee makes the funding decision after peer review.
    • Applicants receive the decision and reviewer comments through the online system.
