Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Community physicians
  • Physicians with a CPSO-licensed M.D.

Who is not eligible

  • Residents
  • Ph.D. holders without an M.D.
  • Graduate students and trainees
  • Investigators based outside Ontario

Eligible expenses

  • Data gathering and analysis
  • Support staff salaries
  • Preparation of reports
  • Presentation of study results

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Cancer, heart and stroke, and pharmaceutical drug development studies
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Fundraising, building funds, and operating costs
  • Major equipment, except when required for the project
  • Projects completed outside Ontario

How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the application
    • Complete the online form and submission survey.
    • Include all required information and supporting items.
  • Step 2: Submit online
    • Submit the application through PSI’s online system.
    • Upload only the documents requested in the portal.
  • Step 3: Review and follow-up
    • PSI reviews the application for completeness and eligibility.
    • Provide clarification if PSI requests additional information.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are first reviewed for completeness and eligibility.
  • Eligible applications are sent to external peer review.
  • The Grants Committee reviews the application and peer reviews before deciding.
  • Applicants are notified of the funding decision and reviewer comments.
  • If funded, project start and reporting conditions apply before payment is released.

Additional information

  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
  • Decisions are generally expected within 6 months.
  • Applicants must use PSI’s online application system.
  • Only one project per Principal Investigator may be supported at a time.
