Who is eligible?

• Registered charities, CIOs, and CICs working in the UK
• Units, establishments, and ships of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines
• Youth groups such as Sea Cadets, Scouts, Girl Guides, and performing arts groups
• Serving members of the Royal Navy or Royal Marines for eligible projects

Who is not eligible

• Organisations that are not registered as charities, CIOs, or CICs in the UK
• Charities with annual income of £30 million or more
• Individuals
• Churches or religious bodies without registered charity status and secular activity
• Hospices, NHS hospitals, mainstream schools, colleges, and universities

Eligible expenses

• Project costs directly benefiting beneficiaries
• Capital costs such as new buildings, extensions, refurbishments, and recreational spaces
• Staff salaries for personnel employed specifically to deliver the project
• Equipment, including sporting equipment and furniture
• Event costs that directly impact grant beneficiaries

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Core costs, including general salaries, running costs, rent, and utility bills
• Professional fees such as building surveys, planning applications, and feasibility studies
• Individuals
• Projects outside England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland for charities and projects

• Suitability for Trustee review after the eligibility quiz

• Step 1: Complete the eligibility quiz
  • Answer the required questions before accessing the application form.
  • Use the quiz to confirm whether your charity or project is suitable for Trustee review.
• Step 2: Choose the correct online form
  • Select the Royal Navy & Royal Marines, General Application, or Sea Cadets application form.
  • Use the Sea Cadets route for applications under £5,000.
• Step 3: Complete the application online
  • Fill in the form immediately after access is granted.
  • Provide the requested project, organisation, and funding details.
• Step 4: Submit and await review
  • Submit the form online.
  • Wait for the Trustees to review the application and for the Foundation’s response.

• Applications are reviewed by the Trustees
• Applications are assessed against the Foundation’s ethos, objects, and available resources
• The Foundation aims to respond within about six weeks
• If successful, applicants should allow at least four weeks for payment processing

• Applications are submitted through an online form after completing an eligibility quiz.
• The Foundation aims to respond within six weeks, but no exact review timescale is guaranteed.
• Successful applicants must complete a grant report form at the end of the project.
• Unsuccessful applicants must wait one calendar year before reapplying.
