- Writers of fiction, poetry, drama, or nonfiction
- Writers with a Saskatchewan connection

- Writers without Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
- Writers without the required Saskatchewan residence or career connection
- Posthumous nominations, unless the writer was alive at the time of selection

How to apply
- Step 1: Complete the nomination form
- Fill out the nominee and nominator information.
- Step 2: Prepare the nomination package
- Include up to 10 pages of supporting material.
- Include the nominee’s accomplishments, biographical sketch, published works, and awards received.
- Step 3: Submit by email
- Send the completed package to programs@skwriter.com.
- Submit by midnight on June 15, 2026.
Processing and Agreement
- Nominations are reviewed by a three-member anonymous jury
- The jury makes the final recipient decision
- Late nominations are carried forward to the following year
- Unselected nominations remain on file for up to three years

- Nominations are kept on file for up to three years if the nominee is not selected.
- All nominations and supporting materials are treated as confidential.
- Only one award is given each year, and it may not be awarded every year.
- The award presentation takes place annually in Saskatoon.
