Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Exceptional early-career researchers worldwide
- Applicants who recently obtained a doctorate in astronomy, physics, or a related scientific field
Who is not eligible
- Applicants cannot combine the position with a postdoctoral fellowship or an honorary fellowship, and the position can be held only once in a lifetime

Selection criteria
- Proposed research program and its ability to push the frontiers of astrophysics through SKA access
- Preparation, including studies, technical skills, past work, scientific impact, and publication record
- Ability to support the Canadian astronomy community
- Leadership potential, with diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigenous participation considered an asset
- If several selected candidates choose the same host institution, priority goes to the highest-ranked candidates; the committee also considers the number of scientists already assigned there and the host institution’s rank on the applicant’s list

Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed by the SKA Scientist Program selection committee, generally made up of astrophysicists, SKA experts, and members of the Canadian SKA regional centre
- The committee ranks candidates and forwards recommendations to the program lead, who makes the final selection
- Proposals for 2026 will be revealed in January 2026
- Selected candidates have until 15 February 2026 to accept or decline; refused offers are then extended to the next candidates on the list
