Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Professional theatre artists living in Ontario.
  • Non-profit ad hoc groups and theatre collectives with at least half of members living in Ontario.
  • Non-profit organizations with a head office in Ontario that produce professional theatre.

Who is not eligible

  • Colleges, universities, and municipalities.
  • Organizations receiving certain operating grants from Francophone arts programs.
  • Organizations receiving other operating grants that do not serve one or more OAC priority groups.

Eligible expenses

  • Artistic, technical, administrative, production, and marketing/promotion costs for production projects.
  • Child care or dependent care costs needed for project participation.
  • Accessibility expenses for deaf or disabled audience members or participants.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Fundraising activities.
  • Capital expenses, including buildings and major equipment purchases.
  • Activities or events outside Ontario.
  • Community, pre-professional, or student productions.
  • Previously staged productions, improvisation, and tours.

  • Projects that develop an individual or organizational artistic practice.
  • Projects that advance francophone theatre practice in Ontario.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Review program information
    • Read the project program guide and related guidance.
    • Check the basic eligibility information and restrictions.
  • Step 2: Prepare your Nova profile
    • Create or update your profile in Nova.
    • Wait for the application form to open about two months before the deadline.
  • Step 3: Prepare the application package
    • Complete the application form questions.
    • Prepare the project budget and artistic sample.
    • Gather biographical notes and any required support documents.
  • Step 4: Submit in Nova
    • Fill out and submit the application in Nova before the deadline.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed after submission through Nova.
  • Applicants are notified of results about four and a half months after the deadline.
  • Successful applicants must complete the project and submit a final report in Nova.
  • A funding recognition requirement applies to recipients.
