Technical Walking Aid Program

• Medical certificate for the physical or severe cardiorespiratory impairment

Who is eligible?

• Individuals with a physical impairment affecting walking.
• Individuals with a severe respiratory or cardiovascular impairment.
• Adult Quebec residents.

Who is not eligible

• People already covered for the same type of aid by another national, federal, or private insurance program.
• People with severe balance issues.
• People who already receive another government mobility aid used only for walking assistance.
• People living in a long-term care centre or public intermediate resource.

Eligible expenses

• No fees or deductibles for the loaner walker.
• Uncovered portion of costs for people with private insurance or social assistance.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Costs already covered by another national, federal, or private insurance program.

• Overall assessment of the person’s needs and resources.

• Step 1: Contact the territorial establishment
  • Reach out to your territorial establishment.
• Step 2: Prepare the medical certificate
  • Obtain a certificate for the physical or severe cardiorespiratory impairment completed by a doctor or specialized nurse practitioner.
• Step 3: Enrol in the program
  • Submit the required information through the territorial establishment.

• Contact your territorial establishment to enrol.
• Provide the required medical certificate.
• Allocation is based on an overall assessment of needs and resources.

• The user must keep the walker insured.
• The walker must be returned when it is no longer used or after the beneficiary’s death.
