Eligible geographic areas

  • Canada
  • Quebec-based projects are eligible for FRQ-Santé co-funding
  • British Columbia-based projects are eligible for Health Research BC co-funding

Selection criteria

  • Clarity and relevance of the research question
  • Alignment with the program objectives, design elements, and research area
  • Equity focus in the project outcome, priorities, and process
  • Feasibility of the research approach and methodology
  • Team strength, partnerships, and knowledge mobilization potential

How to apply

  • Step 1: Registration
    • Identify participants.
    • Enter proposal information and a short research summary.
    • Select the funding pool and research area.
    • Optional: add peer review administration information and manage access.
  • Step 2: Full Application
    • Identify all participants and upload the required tri-agency CVs.
    • Complete the research proposal, budget information, and required attachments.
    • Upload participant table, partner documents, and letters if applicable.
    • Print, sign, and upload signature pages.
  • Step 3: FRQ-Santé Administrative Form (Quebec-based NPA only)
    • Complete the FRQ-Santé administrative form after the CIHR full application, if applicable.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are checked for relevance at registration and/or full application.
  • Non-relevant applications may be withdrawn from the competition.
  • Eligible applications undergo peer review.
  • Successful applicants are funded in rank order within each pool.
  • Funding requires reporting and may involve a funding agreement with the partner.
