Who is eligible?

• Independent researchers affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution and/or its affiliated institutions, including hospitals, research institutes and other non-profit organizations with a mandate for health research and/or knowledge translation.

Who is not eligible

• An individual cannot submit more than one application to this funding opportunity as a Nominated Principal Applicant.
• An individual cannot participate on more than two applications as a Principal Applicant or Principal Knowledge User.

Eligible expenses

• Full-time or part-time salaries paid to members of the grant team, subject to the stated conditions.
• Compensation for knowledge users, including patients, to allow them time to participate in the project.
• Expenditures that respect the culture and traditions of Indigenous Peoples, including Indigenous leadership and engagement, secretariat support, Elders and Knowledge Holders, travel to communities, ceremony, and Indigenous-led knowledge mobilization.
• Costs related to community mobilization and engagement, culturally relevant promotional items, cash reimbursements, and contracts and/or consultant fees for Indigenous Elders, community members, and Indigenous knowledge holders.
• Accessibility supports and translation or preparation of public-facing material, including specialized equipment, software or services, and accessible formats such as ASL, LSQ, CART captioning, electronic braille, and simultaneous interpretation.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• Costs related to the implementation of existing interventions normally associated with the health care system.

• Quality of the overall proposal, including the vision, objectives, methodology, infrastructure, linkages with previous and existing initiatives, and overarching governance structure.
• Quality and appropriateness of the governance structure and the Standards of Evidence Framework, including the two required dimensions, the evidence review process, data management, capacity building, knowledge mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability, Indigenous distinctions-based considerations, and EDI integration.
• Applicant expertise in youth mental health, mental health interventions, evidence standards and reviews, Indigenous youth mental health, Canadian health systems and policy contexts, and relevant methodologies.
• Feasibility and impact, including budget justification, timeframe, partnership risks, and conflict of interest management.
• Funding will be distributed to the top-rated application.

• Complete the application in two steps: Registration and Full Application.
• Submit the Registration first, as it must be submitted to be eligible to submit a full application.
• During Registration, complete the Identify Participants task, Enter Proposal Information, and Summary of Research Proposal.
• During the Full Application, complete the Identify Participants task and upload the required CVs, Participant Table, and other application materials.
• Complete the Budget Information task and Print/Upload Signature Pages before submission.
• If applicable, upload the Sensitive Technology attestation forms, the Indigenous Health Research Cultural Safety Form, and the application partner documents.

• CIHR-INMHA will perform a relevance review on the summary, research proposal and applicant table.
• Applications that are not deemed relevant will be withdrawn from the competition.
• Funding will be distributed to the top-rated application.
• The Nominated Principal Applicant must submit Annual Manual Reports and an electronic Final Report, and update the Governance structure, Standards of Evidence Framework, Data management strategy, Knowledge Mobilization Plan, Capacity Building Plan, Monitoring and Evaluation Plan, and Sustainability Plan.
• The funded team must cooperate with future governance and coordination bodies and may be asked to contribute to evaluation and performance measurement of the Platform.

• Youth is defined as between the ages of 12 and 25.
• The Platform is expected to be publicly accessible online and bilingual in English and French.
• The Platform is intended to be national in scope and designed for long-term sustainability and scalability.
