Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • The Nominated Principal Applicant must be a Canada-based NPA who is an independent researcher affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution and/or its affiliated institutions, or an individual affiliated with an Indigenous non-governmental organization in Canada with a research and/or knowledge translation mandate, or an Indigenous non-governmental organization in Canada with a research and/or knowledge translation mandate
  • For projects involving Indigenous Peoples in Canada, if the NPA is not an independent researcher, the team must include at least one Canada-based independent researcher listed as Principal Applicant
  • The team must include at least one (1) team member who is an early career researcher identified as Nominated Principal Applicant, Principal Applicant or Co-Applicant
  • Canadian-LMIC teams must also include at least one independent researcher listed as Principal Applicant from each LMIC and at least one decision maker and/or policy maker listed as Principal Knowledge User or Knowledge User from each LMIC

Eligible expenses

  • Travel and accommodation costs for two team members to attend the three-day GACD Annual Scientific Meeting each year of the project

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Proposals with the primary aim of informing the development and/or selection of an intervention for a given context, where the implementation component will be explored in a future project
  • Studies that cannot feasibly be completed in the life cycle of the grant
  • Etiological work, mechanistic, or epidemiological research, including epidemiological cohorts, unless an essential component of a focused study to develop implementation research approaches
  • Clinical trials, validation studies, or intervention efficacy studies for a new or established pharmacological agent or behavioural intervention

How to apply

  • Applicants submit a short Stage 1 application
  • Eligible Stage 1 proposals are peer reviewed and scored
  • Successful applicants are invited to submit a Stage 2 proposal
  • Stage 2 proposals are peer reviewed and scored by an independent panel

Processing and Agreement

  • Stage 1 proposals are checked for eligibility by GACD and funding agencies participating in the joint funding process
  • Eligible Stage 1 applications are peer reviewed and scored by an independent panel
  • The Call Steering Group decides which applications will be invited to submit a Stage 2 proposal based on peer reviewer recommendations and a triage panel
  • Stage 2 proposals will be peer reviewed and scored by an independent panel
  • At the joint peer review meeting, each application is assessed independently and a ranking list is developed for each funder
  • The GACD staff provide ranked lists to the funding agencies to inform award decisions

Additional information

  • Two team members must attend the annual GACD Research Network meeting.
  • At least one attendee should be based in an LMIC or other lower-resourced context.
  • Letters of support from the host institution are mandatory.
  • Applications must be submitted in English to GACD and in one of Canada’s official languages to CIHR.
