- For wind energy projects, Indigenous participation or ownership must be an important factor and project viability or Indigenous economic benefits could be seriously compromised.
- For wind energy projects, the effect of the tariffs could have very adverse impacts on remote communities.
- Remission is considered only when exceptional and compelling circumstances outweigh the primary public policy rationale behind the tariffs.
How to apply
- Submit a single request if your product may be eligible under multiple Canadian remission programs, and indicate that you are seeking relief through multiple programs.
- Provide all required information for each remission framework.
- Send your remission request or any inquiry to remissions-trq-derivatives-remises-ct-produitsderives@fin.gc.ca with Steel Derivative Remission in the subject line.
Processing and Agreement
- Requests will be assessed by the Department of Finance in consultation with other relevant federal departments.
- Requests may be subject to consultation with other interested parties, including domestic producers.
- Recommendations will be made to the Minister of Finance.
- Under section 115 of the Customs Tariff, the Minister of Finance may recommend remission to the Governor in Council, and an Order in Council must be approved for remission to take effect.
