Who is eligible?
- Women who are coaches, instructors, volunteers, or teachers operating in a coaching role and interacting with girls and women in a sport or physical activity environment.
- Women who are officials, umpires, judges, referees, adjudicators, or commissaires operating in an officiating capacity and interacting with girls and women in a sport or physical activity environment.
- Women who are sport/recreation administrators, volunteers, board members, committee members, or leaders representing a club, team, or organization with an affiliation with a provincial or national sport organization or physical activity association.
- Individuals applying through not-for-profit or charity organizations in Alberta that are in good standing.
- InMotion Network members.

- Athletes in pursuit of personal achievement in sport
Eligible expenses
- Training, course fees, professional development, professional certification, clinics, and other training related activities.
- Equipment.
- Travel, lodging, and meals.
- Course registration fees and course supplies.
- Accommodations and transportation costs associated with the project in Alberta.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Purchase of capital items.
- Wages and salaries related to administration, staff, or the recipient.
- Items of a personal, social, or promotional nature, including volunteer appreciation.
- Travel outside of Alberta.
- Participation-based sport, physical activity, or recreational initiatives.
Selection criteria
- Projects are prioritized for people who have been, and continue to be, excluded from sport, recreation, and physical activity systems due to interrelated factors such as race, gender, income, (dis)ability, religion, and language.
- How the project addresses barriers to leadership opportunities for women and girls in Alberta.
- Whether the project summary and outcomes align with addressing barriers to participation.
- Whether the applicant’s resume and project summary show leadership progression.
- Whether the budget is reasonable and the application expenses fit within the guidelines.
How to apply
- Submit the application through the online Take the Lead application form.
Processing and Agreement
- Applicants are notified within 30 days of the application deadline.
- Projects must be completed within one year of the application deadline.
- The final report form is completed at the end of the project.
