Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Non-profit organizations
  • Municipalities and municipal districts
  • Economic development organizations
  • Post-secondary institutions
  • Social enterprises, cooperatives, and consultants with relevant expertise

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations that submit more than one application
  • Applicants in Stream 2 whose participants are eligible for Employment Insurance
  • Organizations applying for direct settlement or language service delivery under Stream 1
  • Applicants without Alberta-based legal status

How to apply

  • Step 1: Review program guidelines
    • Read the application guidelines and sample grant agreement.
    • Confirm the project fits the selected stream.
  • Step 2: Complete the application package
    • Prepare the stream-specific application form, implementation plan, outcomes and measures, project description, and budget.
    • Add reference letters or partnership letters, if applicable.
  • Step 3: Submit by email
    • Send all completed documents in one email to newcomersupports@gov.ab.ca.
    • Use the required subject line format.
    • Wait for email confirmation of receipt.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are screened for completeness and eligibility.
  • Eligible applications are reviewed and scored by a committee.
  • Further internal review considers scores, priorities, and available funding.
  • Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for discussion and refinement.
  • Applicants are notified of the results, and final awards are subject to ministerial discretion.

Additional information

  • Only one application per organization is allowed.
  • Successful applicants must provide follow-up data after training.
  • Projects must be time-limited and require a grant agreement.
  • Applications with partnerships must include partner details at submission.
