Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Canadian municipal governments.
  • Municipal partners such as private sector entities, municipally owned corporations, regional/provincial/territorial organizations, NGOs, non-profits, and research institutes.
  • Indigenous communities partnering with a Canadian municipality or under a shared service agreement.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Costs incurred before FCM receives the application, except eligible application-writing costs.
  • Projects focused on non-ZEV vehicles or ICE retrofits.
  • Public charging infrastructure not mainly dedicated to the municipal or transit fleet.
  • New maintenance or operations facilities.

Processing and Agreement

  • Pre-application is reviewed for eligibility by GMF staff.
  • Eligible files move to a full application review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Applications are then reviewed by external peers and through internal analysis.
  • FCM makes the funding decision after the review process.
  • If approved, a funding agreement is prepared.

Additional information

  • Applications are accepted year-round until annual funds are fully allocated.
  • GMF staff review the pre-application before a full application can proceed.
  • Quebec municipalities must first go through MAMH review before GMF assessment.
