Overview
The SODEC "Support for television production – Production value bonus" program provides up to $500,000 (or $750,000 for literary adaptations or projects featuring Quebec musical works) to enhance the production value of French-language scripted television series, documentaries, and animation, with the goal of increasing their commercial potential in markets outside Quebec. Eligible activities include technical and artistic improvements, adaptation of Quebec literary works, and acquisition of existing musical rights.
Financing terms and conditions
- For original screenplays, SODEC investment can reach up to $500,000, not exceeding 50% of eligible enhanced production expenses (minus the additional provincial tax credit).
- For Quebec literary adaptations or projects featuring at least three existing Quebec musical works, SODEC investment can reach up to $750,000, not exceeding 75% of eligible enhanced production expenses (minus the additional provincial tax credit).
- Within the $750,000 maximum, amounts for literary adaptation exploitation rights are capped at $150,000, and acquisition/exploitation of Quebec music rights is limited to $50,000 per work and $150,000 total.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a legally constituted for-profit company whose main activity is audiovisual production.
- The company's head office and principal place of business must be located in Quebec, and effective control must be majority held by individuals with tax residence in Quebec.
- The company must have been operational for at least one year and possess relevant professional experience in television series production.
- The project must be a scripted and developed French-language television series (fiction, documentary, or animation) with fully confirmed national market financing, concerning a first, second, or third season, and showing strong commercial potential outside Quebec.
- The project must not have begun filming before the application date, unless prior agreement is obtained from SODEC, and all production and exploitation rights must be held by the applicant company.

- Individual businesses.
- Canadian broadcasting companies or any company controlled by a Canadian broadcasting company.
Eligible expenses
- Production expenses specifically for the enhanced component intended for markets outside Quebec.
- Post-production expenses associated with increasing the production value for international markets.
- Administrative expenses related to the enhanced component (capped at 10% of categories B + C).
- Expenses for the acquisition or extension of rights for markets outside Quebec.
- Expenses for producing additional episodes of animated television series (up to a maximum of 50% of the episodes included in the domestic budget).

- Potential for adaptation or sale of the project in international markets, including the originality of the project, key production and artistic team members, and how the enhanced production value impacts the project.
- Company’s capacity to expand into international markets, considering the international action plan, targeted markets, networks, previous international experience, and interest from foreign distributors or broadcasters (if applicable).
- Financial aspects, such as the structure and budget of the enhanced production component, additional investment from the applicant and French-language Canadian broadcaster, and details on eligible expenses within the enhanced budget.

- Only complete and compliant applications will be considered
Additional information
- An applicant and its related companies may only submit one application for the same project under this program per intake.
- An applicant may submit only one project per intake period.
- Successful applicants must keep and provide all relevant registers, documents, or other required information for five years following receipt of financial assistance.
- SODEC periodically evaluates the program; aggregated data may be published or disseminated, but individual information remains confidential.
