Overview
This program provides operational funding for shelters serving women and children living on reserve in provinces and in Yukon. As part of the COVID-19 Economic Response Plan, up to $10 million supports activities to manage or prevent outbreaks in shelter facilities and helps sustain core shelter operations.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be an eligible funding recipient recognized/approved by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) (e.g., a First Nations band recognized by the Minister, or an entity approved by Chief and Council).
- The funding request must support day-to-day shelter operations serving women and children living on reserve (in provinces) or in Yukon.
- The shelter operations funded must fall within primary or secondary core shelter operations as defined by the program.

How to apply
Step 1: Confirm intake pathway
- Determine whether your region uses a First Nation regional board to administer prevention funds or whether applications are handled directly by ISC.
- Reach out to the appropriate ISC regional office to request guidance on applying for prevention funding and/or shelter operations funding.
Additional information
- Funding is provided on an ongoing annual basis each April.
- Funding is delivered through Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) regional offices using existing contribution agreements.
- In some regions, First Nation regional boards may administer prevention funds by collecting, reviewing, and approving project proposals.
- Regional boards may also help coordinate a strategic approach to identified family-violence-related needs.
