Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Income-qualified residents over 18
  • Low-income and heat-vulnerable customers referred through their regional health authority’s Home Care Program or Mental Health and Substance Use Program
  • Customers with residential electricity accounts from FortisBC, New Westminster, Grand Forks, Summerland, Penticton or Nelson Hydro

Who is not eligible

  • Applicants without a functioning AC unit are not excluded for the AC offer; only homes with a functioning AC unit are not eligible

Eligible expenses

  • Instant discounts on energy-saving products, including LED light bulbs, low-flow showerheads, and draft-proofing materials

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Central, ducted air conditioning units
  • Common areas in multi-tenanted buildings for AC unit installation

Selection criteria

  • AC units are available on a first-come, first-served basis among qualified applicants.
  • Availability is subject to funding limitations.

How to apply

  • Request an Energy Saving Kit or apply through the Energy Conservation Assistance Program.
  • For the air conditioning offer, apply through the Energy Conservation Assistance Program and include the recommendation letter from the regional health authority program with the application.
  • If required, submit proof of income for each household member aged 18 or older.
  • For renters, submit the landlord consent form with the application.
  • If living in a condo, ensure AC units are permitted in the strata bylaws or receive approval from the strata council before applying.

Processing and Agreement

  • An energy coach will assess the home to determine whether it is compatible with an AC unit.
  • Some approved customers may not receive an AC unit.
  • A follow-up visit may be required to install the AC unit.
  • For the Underground Conduit System Inspection Request Form, a civil inspector will contact the applicant within three business days after submission and arrange for the inspection.
