Sally Manning Memorial Writing Fund

• A typed and printed story submitted on paper by regular mail.
• A separate sheet with the author’s name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and the story title.
• A brief biography of the writer, no more than 50 words, on a separate sheet.

Who is eligible?

• Individuals of First Nations, Inuit or Métis background.
• Current or former residents of the Northwest Territories, Yukon or Nunavut.

• Submissions must be creative non-fiction.
• The program is aimed at emerging writers; submissions from writers considered established by Up Here or the judges may be rejected.
• Submissions determined to be offensive or inappropriate may be rejected.
• The judges make their recommendation based on their best judgement.

• Submit one story for judging by regular mail to Up Here Magazine at the company’s Yellowknife address.
• E-mail and faxed entries are not acceptable.

• Up Here Publishing screens all entries and creates a shortlist of those eligible to receive the award(s).
• After the application period closes, the shortlist is forwarded to the judging committee.
• The judging committee reviews the short list, selects a successful story, up to three, and recommends the ranking of award winners to the Grants Committee of the Yellowknife Community Foundation.
• Applicants must sign a form releasing the award program, the judges and Up Here Publishing from liability in connection with the award.
• Winners must allow their stories to be published with their photograph and a brief biographical sketch, without compensation beyond the Sally Manning Award, and must submit a personal social insurance number and a photograph of themself.
