Eligible expenses

  • Professional fees, including legal, technical, project management, marketing, and accounting services.
  • New software or service fees, marketing and promotion costs, and training related to cyber security, succession planning, or market development.
  • Minor capital costs for accessibility-related improvements, including materials, equipment, subcontracting, and labour.
  • Travel, meals, and accommodation in Ontario for eligible market development activities.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Debt restructuring, fundraising, or financing activities.
  • Projects that influence or lobby government.
  • Major capital costs and related expenditures.
  • Routine business operating costs, including insurance, taxes, office rent, utilities, and owner compensation.
  • Software renewals, website hosting, domain renewals, computers, and security cameras.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are screened for completeness and eligibility.
  • Eligible applications are reviewed by the Rural Economic Development Advisory Panel.
  • The Minister of Rural Affairs makes the final funding decision.
  • Successful applicants receive a letter of approval and must sign a Contribution Agreement.
  • Approved projects are assigned a project analyst, and claims are submitted online with proof of payment.
