Overview
ROOTS Community Fund provides funding of up to an unspecified maximum amount to support Ontario not-for-profits. It supports rural Ontario initiatives in mental wellness, capital healthcare, capital environment/sustainability, capital emergency response, and agriculture projects that advance sustainability and development.
Activities funded
- One-time rural/agricultural mental wellness projects or programs (without government funding).
- Capital healthcare initiatives.
- Capital environmental/sustainability initiatives.
- Capital emergency response initiatives.
- Agriculture initiatives that support sustainability and development of Ontario’s agricultural industry.
Examples of admissible projects:
$ 25,000
Install rooftop solar and energy monitoring to cut facility costs
$ 24,000
Outfit a volunteer emergency response unit with vehicle and safety gear
Documents Needed
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a not-for-profit organization in Ontario.
- The project must support the growth and sustainability of rural Ontario.
- Mental wellness initiatives must be one-time rural/agricultural projects or programs without government funding.
- Healthcare projects must be capital in nature.
- Environmental/sustainability or emergency response projects must be capital in nature.

- Ontario (preference for projects impacting rural Ontario communities)
Selection criteria
Processing and Agreement
- Funding requests are reviewed on a quarterly basis.
- Applications are assessed through a Council review.
- All applicants receive a response following the Council review.
Additional information
- Preference is given to applicants demonstrating impact on rural Ontario communities.
- Funding requests are reviewed quarterly.
