Eligible expenses

  • Ceremonies, gatherings, workshops, meetings, and cultural or emotional support services, including materials, refreshments, venue rental, translation, honoraria, and ceremonial gifts.
  • Research, engagement, and fieldwork costs such as archival research, interviews, environmental assessments, search technologies, surveying, mapping, site preparation, site security, and clean-up.
  • Memorial and commemorative costs, including the design, installation, restoration, materials, and construction of markers, monuments, and spaces.
  • Professional, communication, and operational costs, including consultant and project-related legal fees, accounting, advertising, printing, signage, website work, equipment rental or purchase, software, rent, and utilities.
  • Salaries, travel, volunteer participation expenses, and administration costs up to 10% of the total contribution amount.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Any cost not directly related to approved activities.
  • Land purchase, land acquisition, and capital infrastructure projects.
  • Salaries, benefits, or compensation for elected officials or elected leaders.
  • Core funding, overhead, regular operating or administrative costs, and routine staff activities.
  • Litigation costs, routine repair and maintenance, motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and election-related expenses.

Processing and Agreement

  • The program confirms receipt of your application by email within two business days.
  • A Program Officer is assigned to review the initiative and set up an introductory meeting.
  • The budget is reviewed against the program terms and conditions, and more information may be requested.
  • Funding decisions are flexible, and phased funding may be suggested for later stages.
  • If approved, the funding is issued through a contribution agreement; existing agreements may be amended or a new one created.
