Who is not eligible

  • Retired researchers cannot be project leaders.

Selection criteria

  • Letters of intent are evaluated for relevance to the 2026-2027 forest research needs.
  • Detailed proposals are evaluated for scientific quality.
  • The passing score is 70% for the relevance stage.
  • The passing score is 70% for the scientific stage.
  • Final selection uses relevance at 60% and scientific quality at 40%, and projects are ranked in descending order of the final score until the envelope is allocated.

How to apply

  • Submit the letter of intent by email to DRF-projet.recherche@mrnf.gouv.qc.ca by 21 September 2026 at 16 h.
  • Include the project leader's CV in the CV-FRQ descriptive format with the letter of intent.
  • If the project is retained for relevance evaluation, submit the detailed project proposal by email to DRF-projet.recherche@mrnf.gouv.qc.ca by 9 December 2026 at 16 h.
  • Include the CVs of all researchers involved with the detailed proposal.
  • Send the forms and CVs in two separate files clearly identified with the project leader's name.

Processing and Agreement

  • Admissibility is assessed upon receipt based on the information and documents submitted by the deadlines.
  • Only eligible projects are evaluated.
  • Letters of intent are reviewed for relevance, then retained projects proceed to scientific evaluation of the detailed proposal.
  • Final selection is based on combined relevance and scientific quality scores.
  • Funding agreements are signed between the MRNF and each institution, and decisions are final and without appeal; the final report must be submitted by 1 June 2030.
