Overview

  • Provides up to $50,000 to support research and sector-building projects in Canada. Funding supports research that addresses equity barriers and events that convene arts and media practitioners to build networks and strengthen advocacy.

Activities funded

  • Research projects that bridge knowledge gaps and build capacity to advance narrative power.
  • Research that identifies policy and practice solutions to equity barriers.
  • Knowledge mobilization and advocacy activities connected to research findings that promote systemic change.
  • Sector-building events that convene arts and media practitioners to develop networks, capacity, and advocacy strategies.

Eligibility

  • The organization or group must be based in Canada.
  • The proposed work must take place in Canada.
  • The project must align with the funder’s granting priorities (equitable narrative ecosystems, Indigenous narrative sovereignty and advancing reconciliation, and/or challenging Islamophobia).
  • The project must support research that bridges knowledge gaps and builds capacity to advance narrative power, or support sector-building through convenings that strengthen networks and advocacy.

Selection criteria

How to apply

Step 1: Optional pre-application inquiry
  • Email the funder in advance with questions or specific inquiries.
  • Optionally submit a brief letter of inquiry (maximum 1 page).
Step 2: Apply through the application portal
  • Access the grant application portal when it opens for the relevant round.
  • Submit the application through the portal within the round’s intake period.

Processing and Agreement

  • Round 1 decisions are made by the end of June after the application portal opens April 2.
  • Round 2 decisions are made by the end of November after the application portal re-opens July 15.

  • The funder prioritizes newer initiatives that fill gaps in the current landscape.
  • The funder has three cross-stream priorities: building equitable narrative ecosystems, Indigenous narrative sovereignty and advancing reconciliation, and challenging Islamophobia.
  • Applicants may send a brief letter of inquiry (maximum 1 page) before applying.
  • Due to high volume, the funder may not be able to respond to all inquiries.
