Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Individuals and families
  • Low-income households and low-income renter households
  • Residents of Ontario who are on or eligible to be on the Centralized Waiting List (CWL) for social housing
  • Individuals or families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, or with a history of homelessness
  • Households receiving or needing support services that the community agency can provide and sustain

Who is not eligible

  • Households already receiving a rental subsidy from the County of Wellington or similar agencies
  • Households applying for hostel units
  • Households seeking group home, nursing home, or retirement home accommodation
  • Applicants who do not meet the program’s legal status requirements

Eligible expenses

  • Monthly rent subsidy paid to the landlord
  • Partial rent support for eligible households
  • Coverage of eligible vacancy loss for landlords

  • Funding for households already receiving a rental subsidy from the County of Wellington or similar agencies

  • SAMH accepts referrals on behalf of individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, or who have a history of homelessness

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed for completeness and eligibility.
  • Applicants may be contacted within 30 days if the application is complete and eligible.
  • Incomplete applications are identified within seven business days.
  • Approved applicants are contacted by telephone, email, or in writing.
  • Some decisions can be reviewed through a formal request process.
