Who is eligible?
- Veterinary practices accredited by the CVBC but not currently accredited for food animal services, for the licensing and accreditation activity.
- Veterinarians licensed by the CVBC or immediately eligible for licensing by the CVBC, for the licensing and accreditation activity.
- Veterinary practices accredited by the CVBC to provide food animal services and actively offering food animal services to clients in Priority 1 regions during the program period.
Who is not eligible
- Any entity that is not a veterinary practice or veterinarian as described in this program guide.
Eligible expenses
- CVBC fees associated with the change of scope.
- CVBC fees associated with facility accreditation.
- CVBC registrant licensing, SBCV membership, and BCVTA registration fees for staff that provide food animal services.
- Staff wages allocated to work required to meet CVBC requirements associated with change of scope.
- Recruitment services, job interview participation costs, and hiring bonuses for newly recruited veterinarians and RVTs with minimum 1-year full-time equivalent contracts.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Educational externships, rotations, and components of veterinary or veterinary technologist education curricula.
- Activities that do not occur in a Priority 1 region.
- Expenditures that exceed the stated activity maximum amounts.
- Expenditures already being claimed under any other AF program.
- Travel to a single premises to provide emergency care.
Eligible geographic areas
- Priority 1 geographic regions: Stikine, Kitimat Stikine, Peace River, Northern Rockies, North Coast, Central Coast, Bulkley Nechako, and Fraser Fort George.
Selection criteria
- If funding requested across all eligible and complete applications exceeds available funding, allocation will be on a first come first served basis.
How to apply
- Submit the application through UNITY.
- Email at least three support letters to chief.veterinarian@gov.bc.ca.
Processing and Agreement
- Provincial staff will review all applications for eligibility and completeness.
- If required information is missing, the application will be returned to the applicant requesting the missing information, which can slow funding decision timelines.
- If requested funding across all eligible and complete applications exceeds available funding, allocation will be on a first come first served basis.
- Claim forms must be submitted within ten business days of the end of the quarter when services were delivered, without exception.
- AF staff may validate claims by requesting additional proof of claim from veterinary practices, veterinary practice clients, or by other practical means.

For licensing and accreditation, applicants must be CVBC-accredited veterinary practices not currently accredited for food animal services, or veterinarians licensed by the CVBC or immediately eligible for licensing by the CVBC.
For all other activities, applicants must be CVBC-accredited veterinary practices to provide food animal services.
Applicants must be actively offering food animal services to clients in Priority 1 regions during the program period.
