Overview

This program provides up to $10,000 per Spring or Fall cycle and offers Flagship Funding of $60,000 over three years ($20,000/year). It supports registered charities delivering housing initiatives and community projects that improve accessibility, inclusion, and equitable access to essential supports.

Activities funded

  • Providing safe and accessible shelter (e.g., homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters)
  • Delivering accommodated recovery programs
  • Improving accessibility in housing units or shelter facilities
  • Developing or maintaining affordable housing (e.g., construction or repairs)
  • Community initiatives that reduce inaccessibility and promote equitable opportunities (including food security)
Examples of admissible projects:

Accessibility and safety retrofits for an emergency domestic violence shelter

Inclusive community kitchen upgrades to expand food security programming

Eligibility

  • The applicant must have a Canada Revenue Agency charitable registration number.
  • The proposed project must fit within one of the funding pillars (Housing or Community Grants).

  • Organizations using the charitable number of a different organization

Eligible expenses

  • Construction, operating costs, or repairs for affordable housing units
  • Accessibility improvements to housing units or shelter facilities

  • Applications from nonprofits without a Canada Revenue Agency charitable registration number
  • Applications from nonprofits still applying for charitable status
  • Applications submitted using another organization’s charitable number
