Overview

Rain Ready Ottawa provides rebates of up to $5,000 to support residents in implementing rainwater management projects on their properties. Eligible activities include downspout redirection, rain garden installation, soakaway pits, permeable pavements, and certified landscape designs, all aimed at reducing the harmful impacts of stormwater runoff.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Rebates available up to $5,000 per property for rainwater management projects in designated areas.
  • Eligible practices and maximum rebate amounts per category: Downspout redirection (up to $1,000), Rain garden installation (up to $2,500), Soakaway pit installation (up to $2,500), Permeable pavements (up to $5,000), and Certified landscape designs ($500).
  • Funding is limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Installation of rain gardens to manage rainwater on the property.
  • Redirection of downspouts to reduce runoff and prevent basement flooding.
  • Construction of soakaway pits to promote rainwater infiltration into the ground.
  • Implementation of permeable pavement solutions to reduce runoff from driveways and other hard surfaces.
  • Development of certified landscape designs focused on stormwater management.

Eligibility

  • The property must be located within the City of Ottawa's Priority Stormwater Retrofit Area to be eligible for rebates.
  • The applicant must be a resident or property representative (owner, manager, condo board member, or homeowners association representative) of the eligible property.
  • Projects must involve eligible rainwater management practices such as downspout redirection, rain garden installation, soakaway pits, permeable pavements, or certified landscape designs.
  • The applicant must complete a Rain Ready Ottawa Home Assessment, or work with a certified Fusion Landscape Professional, or have successfully completed the relevant Rain Ready Ottawa eLearning courses depending on the type of rebate sought.

Who is eligible?

  • Multi-unit residential building property management companies (for buildings up to three storeys, excluding basements)

Eligible expenses

  • Costs for downspout redirection materials and installation (e.g., splash pads, extenders, redirection equipment).
  • Expenses for rain garden installation, including plants, soil, and related materials.
  • Costs for soakaway pit installation, including permeable materials, filter fabric, and stone.
  • Costs for the supply and installation of permeable pavement by a qualified contractor.
  • Fees for certified landscape design services related to stormwater management practices.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Residents and property owners within the City of Ottawa's Priority Stormwater Retrofit Areas.
  • Residents and property owners within the City of Ottawa's Secondary Stormwater Retrofit Areas.
  • Residents located anywhere within the City of Ottawa (for eLearning courses).

  • Complete one of the following: a Rain Ready Ottawa home assessment, collaborate with a certified Fusion Landscape Professional, or complete relevant Rain Ready Ottawa eLearning courses
  • Download and save certificates of completion for eLearning courses, if applicable

  • Prepare all necessary documentation, including proof of eligibility and any certificates from eLearning courses or partnership contracts
  • Gather supporting documents as outlined in the applicant guide
