Eligibility

Who is eligible?

Selection criteria

  • Approvals will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.

How to apply

  • Complete the online pre-approval application by answering the questionnaire, watching the instructional videos, and completing a roof area calculation to receive your subsidy estimate.
  • Determine the slope of the proposed rain garden location and record it on the Design Sketch Template.
  • Conduct a drainage test at the proposed location and complete the Soil Drainage Test section of the Design Sketch Template.
  • Create your rain garden design sketch, including proposed plant materials.
  • Submit your application for full approval either in person at City Hall or electronically on the website.

Processing and Agreement

  • After your application has been reviewed and accepted, GreenUP staff will contact you to coordinate a mandatory on-site visit during the garden construction stage.
  • During installation, applicants must set up at least one site visit with GreenUP to ensure the garden is being installed correctly; this requirement may be waived if you hire a professional landscaper.
  • After installation, submit your progress photos and receipts for review and reimbursement either by email to rethinktherain@peterborough.ca or in person at City Hall, 500 George St. N., Peterborough ON.
  • Copies of receipts are acceptable; original receipts are not required.

  • The City requires all submissions in metric units.
  • Instructions on how to submit applications electronically will be emailed to qualifying applicants.
  • Assistance with the aerial measurement tool is available upon request.
