Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • International collaborators, if the project benefits Canada

Eligible expenses

  • Personnel salaries for project work
  • Consumables, supplies and project materials
  • Equipment purchases, including eligible research equipment and IT
  • Travel and accommodation for project execution
  • Contracted professional services and indirect costs up to 10%

Selection criteria

  • Financial awards are determined based on the final evaluation of proposed projects, including risk assessment.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Assemble the project team and identify an NRC collaborator
    • Form the team with at least one eligible applicant and one NRC researcher.
    • If needed, contact the program email to try to find an NRC match.
  • Step 2: Request and complete the EOI form
    • Email the program team to request the expression of interest form.
    • Complete the form and return it by email to the same address.
  • Step 3: Submit the full project proposal if invited
    • Selected applicants receive the proposal templates.
    • Develop the proposal with the NRC partner.
    • Submit the full project proposal by email and copy the program team.
  • Step 4: Provide NRC internal project documents
    • NRC collaborator PIs submit the required internal NRC documents.
  • Step 5: Await review and outcome
    • The NPO coordinates peer review and due diligence.
    • Applicants receive the notice of outcome.

Processing and Agreement

  • All full project proposals undergo due diligence and verification, including a peer review process, to determine which projects will be recommended for funding.
  • The National Program Office sends a notice of outcome to eligible applicants.
  • For successful projects, the National Program Office develops collaborative research and funding agreements with support from the research centres.

  • Projects supported under this call benefit from NRC assets and scientific expertise.
  • Applicants may need to provide supplementary information during review.
