  • Applicants whose activities are primarily social services rather than law or justice-related work
  • Organizations providing legal advice without Approved Legal Services Provider status

Eligible expenses

  • Direct program or project costs related to law or the justice system.
  • A reasonable share of administration and overhead costs, such as supervision, rent, financial oversight, audit, insurance, IT, and evaluation.
  • Vehicle purchase or lease costs when the vehicle is integral to delivering the funded program or project.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Activities primarily focused on providing social services.
  • Purchase of real estate.
  • Vehicle costs when the vehicle is not integral to program or project delivery.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Alberta
  • Organizations based outside Alberta may apply if their project benefits Albertans and has support from their home province’s local law foundation.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by the Foundation Board.
  • The Board meets four times a year to review applications: February, March, October, and November.
  • Applications are considered during external grant calls posted on the Foundation’s website.

Additional information

  • Registered charity status is not required.
  • Funding can support both existing programming and new programs or projects.
  • Organizations do not need to be exclusively law-focused if the proposed work relates to Canadian law or Indigenous law.
