Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Indigenous screen-based creators.
- Indigenous-controlled corporations with their head office in Canada.
- Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
Who is not eligible
- Companies in insolvency or bankruptcy, or in the course of the reorganization of their business within the meaning of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (Canada).
- Applicants that have already received funding in a previous round for the same project in this program.
- Applicants with outstanding final reports in any ISO program, until the report is submitted and approved.
- Applicants must not receive funding from other ISO programs for the same project activities or initiative.
Eligible expenses
- Production-phase costs for a series or feature film, including hiring key creatives, cast, crew, technical expertise, cultural advisors or knowledge carriers, community liaisons, or specialized talent.
- Accessibility costs; translation and language support.
- Fees and honorariums for community engagement consultants or advisors, facilitators, mentors, or knowledge keepers.
- Trainee and mentorship positions, except if applying for Sector Development Production Training; production of promotional materials and digital content; producer fees and corporate overhead; contingency costs; sustainability costs.
- Some equipment purchases, with cost details included; costs related to a previously produced pilot when a series is produced from that pilot.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Retakes or pick-ups.
- Versioning, including narration, of existing content.
- Activities carried out to satisfy post-secondary course requirements of an educational institution.

Selection criteria
- Applications are assessed through a peer review process made up of Indigenous individuals representing different nations, a range of industry practices, and regions of Canada.
- Final funding decisions are made by ISO on the basis of peer review recommendations.
- Assessment is based on the criteria listed in the ISO General Funding Guidelines.
- ISO also considers availability of funds, its mandate and 3-year strategic plan, and the thoughtfulness, thoroughness, and clarity of the application.
- Funding priorities include authentic Indigenous storytellers, Indigenous storytelling across regions, paid employment and career development for Indigenous people, and environmental responsibility and sustainable production practices.

Processing and Agreement
- An initial review for eligibility and missing documentation is conducted by the ISO Program Coordinator and Program Manager.
- If additional information is needed, applicants are given a maximum of 5 business days to submit outstanding documents.
- Ineligible or incomplete applications can be withdrawn at any time in the process.
- Approved applicants must sign a legally enforceable agreement.
- A final report is required for all recipients, and any material changes to a project and its budget must be approved by ISO before funding can be transferred to different project activities.

- Applicants intending to apply to the CMF Indigenous Program with the same project are subject to additional rules and must comply with the CMF Production Program Guidelines.
