Overview

The Prix Innovation en alimentation awards program, organized by the Conseil de la transformation alimentaire du Québec (CTAQ), recognizes outstanding innovation within the Canadian agri-food sector, offering significant industry visibility rather than direct financial support. Eligible activities include the development and implementation of new products, improved packaging, or innovative technologies and processes in the food industry.

Financing terms and conditions

  • Entry fees are required to participate and vary according to the number of employees: $275 (less than 20 employees), $525 (20 to 49 employees), and $1,525 (50 and more employees), plus applicable taxes.

Activities funded

  • Development and marketing of new or improved food products for human consumption.
  • Creation or redesign of innovative packaging solutions for food products.
  • Implementation of new technologies or manufacturing processes to improve productivity in the food industry.
  • Adaptation of technologies from other sectors for use in food processing or production.
  • Development of non-food products that serve the food industry, such as paper goods or sanitation products.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a company operating in Canada's food sector.
  • The research, development, and implementation of the innovation project must be carried out in Canada.
  • The company must comply with all food safety standards.
  • The innovation project must have been developed or launched between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025 (or between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2025 for Technology & Productivity projects, provided it has not previously won).

  • Marketing, advertising, or public relations agencies involved in food packaging

  • Companies located in Canada.

Selection criteria

  • Degree and quality of innovation (up to 35 points for Products category).
  • Difficulty level and effort required for development (up to 15 points for Products category).
  • Sustainable development and eco-responsibility (up to 10 points for Products category; up to 15 points for Packaging category).
  • Potential for market success, including practicality and consumer appeal (up to 10 points for Products category; up to 20 points for Packaging consumer experience).
  • Project description, innovation aspects, and achieved or expected results (up to 25 points for Technology & Productivity category for project description; up to 50 points for results).

  • Gather all required documents: certificate in hygiene and food safety (if applicable), proof of payment, company logo (PNG), high-resolution image of the project
  • Prepare product or packaging samples for jury if applicable; details on quantity and delivery will be sent later

Submit application by email

  • Email the complete application file to concours@conseiltaq.com before the deadline (October 2, 2025, 5 PM)
  • Ensure all required attachments and documents are included

Await confirmation and provide samples

  • Receive acknowledgment of receipt from the organizers via email
  • Deliver samples for jury evaluation if requested

  • Submission of product or packaging samples for jury evaluation may be required; details on quantity and delivery will be communicated after registration.
  • All application documents and samples will be destroyed after the competition; nothing will be returned to applicants.
