Overview
The Prairie Agtech Validation Program offers financial support (maximum funding amount not specified) to Alberta agricultural producers and Prairie-based agtech companies to validate and demonstrate pre-commercial digital agriculture innovations. Eligible activities include on-farm/ranch testing and demonstrations, producer feedback and mentorship, and collaboration with research experts to accelerate commercialization.
Activities funded
- Collaborate with prairie-based agtech companies at an early stage to provide producer feedback and help shape product development toward commercialization.
- Validate and demonstrate pre-commercial digital agriculture innovations on a commercial farm or ranch in partnership with agtech companies and research experts.
- Integrate and consolidate farm digital data (including paper records) into a unified platform as part of implementing commercial-ready agtech solutions.
- Pair prairie-based agtech companies with producers and research experts to collect real-world validation data and accelerate an agtech product launch.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be a Prairie-based agtech company.
- The company must be developing an agtech innovation in areas such as robotics, automation, AI, or data-driven decision-making.
- The innovation must be on the cusp of pre-commercialization (pre-commercial).
- The project/innovation must target farmers or ranchers (producers) as end users.

- Prairie-based agtech companies developing pre-commercial innovations (e.g., robotics, automation, AI, data-driven decision-making) for farmers or ranchers

- Complete the Producer Application Form if you are an Alberta agricultural producer
- Complete the Technology Provider Application Form if you are a Prairie-based agtech company

- Submit the completed form to express your interest in the program
- Note that expressing interest does not guarantee selection

- Wait for CAAIN’s selection decision, as not all applicants will be chosen
Additional information
- Not all applicants who express interest will be selected for the program.
- Selected producers may receive free integration of existing digital data (and paper records) onto a unified platform, while retaining full ownership and control of their data.
- Up to eight producers may be compensated for their time, expertise, and mentorship when providing feedback to technology providers.
- Participants may access networking opportunities with progressive producers, industry professionals, and the broader Canadian agtech ecosystem.
