Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Registered charities.
  • Organizations serving residents of Port Coquitlam.
  • Registered non-profit societies using an approved Intermediary Agreement.

Who is not eligible

  • Organizations outside Port Coquitlam.
  • Individuals.
  • Organizations that discriminate based on race, religion, colour, creed, sex, age, or national origin.
  • Religious or sectarian organizations, unless the project benefits the entire community.

Eligible expenses

  • Salaries as part of an overall project.
  • Capital costs when the capital component is key to project success.
  • Operating funds in cases of urgent need with a sustainability plan.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Projects or programs outside Port Coquitlam.
  • Advertising for benefit purposes, including sporting events and conferences.
  • Annual fundraising campaigns.
  • Debt retirement.
  • Retroactive funding for projects already completed.
  • Endowment funds.

How to apply

  • Step 1: Confirm eligibility
    • Make sure the organization is a registered charity with a current CRA registration number.
    • If applicable, ask about the Intermediary Agreement option for BC non-profit societies without a CRA charitable number.
  • Step 2: Choose an application method
    • Submit either a live oral application or a recorded oral application.
    • Online applications are also accepted.
  • Step 3: Prepare the application
    • Gather the organization details, project description, timeline, objectives, and budget.
    • Use the PoCo Foundation budget document for the project budget.
  • Step 4: Submit to the Foundation
    • Send the application through the online form or by oral application process.
    • Paper and email applications are not accepted.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed by the Granting Committee.
  • A site visit may be requested during the review process.
  • Recommendations are made to the Board of Directors, whose decisions are final.
  • Successful applicants must sign an Accountability Agreement before receiving funds.
  • Grant recipients must submit a final report.

  • Community grants are offered twice a year: spring and fall.
  • Successful applicants must sign an Accountability Agreement before funds are released.
  • A final report is required from all grant recipients.
  • All submitted materials become the property of the PoCo Community Foundation.
