How to apply

  • Step 1: Prepare the permit application
    • Complete the building permit application form.
    • Complete the homeowner release form.
  • Step 2: Gather required project documents
    • Provide device specifications and data sheets.
    • Provide a floor plan or survey showing the work location.
    • Include BMEC approval or CCMC/Minister’s Rulings when required.
  • Step 3: Submit the permit application
    • Submit the required documents with the building permit application.

Processing and Agreement

  • The owner acknowledges that the City’s decision to subsidize the permit cost is not an admission of liability or responsibility for past or future sewer backups or overland flooding damage.
  • The owner agrees not to use the subsidized permit fee as evidence in any legal proceeding against the City, its councillors, officers, employees, or agents.
  • The owner accepts that the existing private wastewater and storm water systems on the property remain the owner’s responsibility, including future maintenance and upkeep of completed work.
  • If the property is sold or leased, the owner will inform the purchaser or lessee of the completed work and the applicable maintenance requirements.

Additional information

  • Only one building permit application form is required if multiple eligible works are proposed together.
  • The City notes that the Engineering Services Department will review the proposed discharge location for sump pump installations through a site visit.
