Selection criteria
- Applications are scored using an evaluation score card after the intake period closes.
- Scored factors include development status, housing provider, prior experience, location, building and site design, and affordability.
- Greater construction readiness receives more points.
- Projects in growth areas, near transit, or close to community resources and services receive higher scores, as do projects with energy efficiency, urban design, mixed uses or amenities, accessible design, and family-sized or mixed-unit housing.
- Projects with more affordable units, deeper affordability, more new housing units, and affordability beyond 25 years receive higher scores.
How to apply
- Submit the completed application by email to HousingCIP@barrie.ca.
- Apply only during the specified intake periods.
- Submit the application before the application deadline.
- Include the required supporting information and materials with the application.
Processing and Agreement
- Development Services staff review applications as received for completeness and eligibility, and may contact applicants by email if information is missing or eligibility cannot be confirmed.
- Accepted applications are scored using an evaluation score card, and staff may request clarification, additional supporting documentation, site visits, and inspections.
- Development Services staff make written recommendations to an interdepartmental Grants Review Group, which makes the final funding decisions and sets the amount of funding provided.
- Successful applicants are notified, and unsuccessful applicants can request a debrief meeting with Development Services staff.
- Successful applicants must enter into a legal agreement with the City of Barrie, which Legal Services helps finalize and register, and recipients must provide annual reporting to confirm affordability.
