Award Guidelines updated
The Award Guidelines were updated effective September 1, 2026. Reviewer rules were tightened so reviewers cannot be employed by any eligible institution, conflict disclosures must be made in writing and marked in the ResearchNB portal, and the non-collaboration lookback period changed from five years to six years. The guidelines now add a Research Involving Indigenous Communities section requiring meaningful community engagement, community-endorsed ethics, supporting endorsement documents, respect for Indigenous data governance, and a data management plan. They also add new post-award reporting expectations, including one- and three-year impact reports, possible partner reports, and report templates available eight weeks before the report deadline; awards are also now conditional on adequate annual provincial funding allocations.

Who is eligible?
- Applicants must be researchers at one of the eligible research institutions listed in the Award Guidelines.
- A single principal investigator (PI) may apply.
- A joint team comprising the PI and one or more co-applicants may apply, and the co-applicant must be enrolled at one of ResearchNB’s eligible institutions.
Who is not eligible
- Applicants who are not researchers at an eligible research institution.
- Projects without a partner outside the research institution.
- Projects whose main purpose is curriculum development, teaching materials, program evaluation, conferences or workshops, digitization, or database creation.

How to apply
- Applicant registers, logs in, completes all sections in the application, and submits through the ResearchNB application portal.
- Applicant’s institutional research administration office/signatory endorses the application.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed against the program’s evaluation criteria.
- Eligible applications are assessed by external expert reviewers.
- Applicants receive a Notice of Decision.
- Award recipients may receive additional partner training after the decision.

- Applications are submitted through the ResearchNB portal only.
- Applicants must use Canadian dollars for all amounts.
- French-language applications receive 20% more word space in limited fields.
- Optional partner training may be offered after the Notice of Decision.
