Who is eligible?
- Nominated Principal Applicant leading the Canadian component: an independent researcher affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution and/or affiliated institutions, including hospitals, research institutes and other non-profit organizations with a mandate for health research and/or knowledge translation.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Studies based exclusively on preclinical models limited to established cell lines
- Phase III and IV clinical trials
- Studies not compliant with applicable European Union regulations on State aid and services of general economic interest, including Commission Regulation (EC) No 800/2008 and Commission Regulation (EU) No 651/2014, as well as related communications and guidance documents
How to apply
- Submit the pre-proposal in English to the JCS by the coordinator through the PT-Outline electronic submission system.
- If invited, submit the full proposal in English to the JCS by the coordinator through the PT-Outline electronic submission system.
- If invited to full proposal stage, the Canadian component of the transnational team must submit an abbreviated CIHR application in one of the two official languages of Canada using ResearchNet.
Processing and Agreement
- Full proposals will only be accepted from applicants explicitly invited by the JCS to submit.
- The NPA is responsible for an electronic Final Report to CIHR, available on ResearchNet at the beginning of the grant funding period and fillable as the research progresses.
- Successful NPAs will be expected to develop and sign a Consortium Agreement; the NPA does not need to send a signed copy or declaration to CIHR, and the Joint Call Secretariat will contact them directly if needed.
- The names of successfully funded applicants will be published on the CIHR website.
