Operating Grant: Population Health Intervention Research

• Signed signature pages, including the routing slip
• Applicant table listing all participants, their affiliated organization, and their role on the application
• Mentorship plan
• Signed letters of support from the mentor and all partner organizations
• A letter from the recipient’s organization for release time requests, certifying that the Allowable Costs requirements are met

Who is eligible?

• New Investigators
• Applicants appointed at eligible institutions
• Applicants with an academic or research appointment, or a formal commitment to one, at an eligible institution
• Applicants holding an independent researcher appointment for 0 to 60 months, or a formal commitment effective at the start of the award

Who is not eligible

• Nominated Principal Applicants or team members who are the implementer of the population health intervention
• Team members and the implementer of the intervention if they are from the same institution

Eligible expenses

• Consulting fees or fee-for-service arrangements for individuals not currently employed or who are self-employed, paid under a service agreement or contract established by the grant holder with the administering institution
• Release time allowance for a knowledge user, limited to $20,000 per annum per individual per grant

Ineligible Costs and Activities

• The cost of implementing the population health intervention
• Bridging or emergency funding
• Ongoing research studies

• Relevance to the objectives and research priority areas
• Research Approach (40%)
• Impact of the Research (40%)
• Applicant(s) (20%)
• Applications are funded from the top down as far as the budget will allow, and applications receiving a rating below 3.5 will not be funded

• Submit the application through ResearchNet
• Upload the signed signature pages, including the routing slip, in the Print/Upload Signature Pages task before submitting
• Identify each participant in ResearchNet and enter the appropriate CIHR Academic CV or Knowledge User CV confirmation number, except for collaborators
• For teams with an Aboriginal team member, add that person as a collaborator if desired and upload a free-form personal CV as an Other document labelled Personal CV - Aboriginal Collaborator
• Upload the applicant table, mentorship plan, and required letters of support as Other application materials
• For release time requests, upload a letter from the recipient’s organization certifying the Allowable Costs requirements are met

• The applicant must consent to the sharing of nominative information at the time of application to be eligible for funding.
• CIHR lead institutes and the Pathways Initiative Management Support Office conduct a relevance review before peer review.
• Applications not deemed relevant are withdrawn from the competition.
• A CIHR review committee evaluates the full applications.
• Applications are funded from the top down as far as the budget will allow, and applications receiving a rating below 3.5 will not be funded.
• Successful applicants will be informed of any special financial requirements before funds are released or when they receive the Authorization for Funding document.
