- Indigenous communities, groups, or organizations with a research or knowledge translation mandate.
- Independent researchers or knowledge users who self-identify as Indigenous.
- Independent researchers or knowledge users who attest to meaningful and culturally safe relationships with Indigenous peoples.

Selection criteria
- Applications must show how the team will respond to the priorities of the main group in its service area and consider the whole community.
Processing and Agreement
- If a designated principal applicant or team members participate in multiple applications, peer reviewers will determine whether funding two similar applications is appropriate.
- Funds for a successful application will be issued only when the relevant institution has obtained eligible status to administer CIHR funds.
Additional information
- The program is directed by the Institute of Indigenous Peoples' Health in collaboration with the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health, with support from the 13 CIHR institutes.
- One selected centre also serves as the National Coordinating Centre within the program’s shared governance structure.
