Step 4 - Description of Livestock & Signs of Predation

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Livestock and poultry producers
  • Farm businesses with eligible wildlife damage claims

Who is not eligible

  • Claims where the damage was caused by a stray dog not normally kept on the premises
  • Claims involving sick or diseased animals
  • Applications missing required eligibility information

Eligible expenses

  • Veterinary care for injured livestock, up to the livestock’s fair market value
  • Medication costs for treatment directed by a veterinarian

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Losses caused by dogs not normally kept on the premises
  • Claims with insufficient evidence
  • Sick or diseased animals
  • Claims without required registration or identification information

How to apply

  • Step 1: Complete the Reasonable Care Plan form
    • Fill in owner and business identification details.
    • Indicate your Farm Business Registration Number or exemption.
    • Provide the Premises Identification Number for each location.
  • Step 2: Describe current and planned care measures
    • List existing predation prevention measures.
    • Indicate planned farm management changes, investments, and services.
    • Attach additional pages if needed.
  • Step 3: Sign and submit the form
    • Confirm that the information is true and accurate.
    • Sign and date the form.
    • Submit it to the Administrator of the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program.

Processing and Agreement

  • The municipality reviews the application for completeness
  • OMAFRA assesses eligibility, evidence and reasonable care
  • The applicant receives a decision letter with the assigned value
  • Appeals must be submitted within 20 business days
  • Approved payments are released after the appeal period ends

  • The program is administered through the local municipality and reviewed by OMAFRA.
  • Compensation is considered taxable income.
  • Owners may need to provide a Social Insurance Number or business number if requested.
