Graduate funding package eligibility and timing updated
The Graduate Funding Package now requires funded students to be registered full-time during the fall, winter, and summer terms, instead of only fall and winter. The Student Employment page also shows revised R&D GA guidance, including a new ineligibility for students who hold both GA and R&D GA roles at the same time, plus updated Fall/Winter 2026-2027 posting access and notification timing. The payroll documentation page was also revised to point the Payroll Bank Authorization Form to a new document URL, which may affect where students download a required form. Overall, the visible changes tighten eligibility and update application timing and supporting links rather than changing the core funding amounts.

Documents Needed
- Provincial Tax Credit Form (Ontario Personal Tax Credits Return) and Federal Tax Credit Form (Personal Tax Credits Return).
- Payroll Bank Authorization Form for Direct Deposit.
- A void cheque from a Canadian Banking Institution, or a Pre-Authorization Payment or Deposit Form supplied by your Canadian bank if you cannot provide a void cheque.
- Copy of your Study Permit (for International Students Only), and if you have a study permit and your Social Insurance Number starts with a 9, a copy of your passport.
- Social Insurance Number (SIN) card/letter for verification, or proof of application through Service Canada if you do not have or have lost your card/letter.

Who is eligible?

- Students working full-time, 35 hours per week or more, during the fall and winter terms.

Selection criteria
- Eligible students are selected for funding based on their funded cohort status and program.
- Funding package type may vary depending on student circumstances.
- Major external awards can affect the package value and renewal.
Processing and Agreement
- Eligible students receive a letter indicating the approximate minimum level of funding together with their offer of admission, and the Office of Student Financial Support contacts them with the next steps in the process.
- Students who receive major external awards are expected to request that their award be activated in September.
- Major external scholarships from Federal Granting Agencies (SSHRC and NSERC) or provincial awards, such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), are processed through ACORN by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).
- OISE Fellowships are processed through ACORN by the OISE Graduate Funding Office and are disbursed in 3 equal instalments in September, January, and May.
- Research Fellowships are processed through HRIS by the department Business Officer, and Graduate Assistantships (GA) and Teaching Assistantships (TA) payroll are processed through HRIS by the OISE Graduate Funding Office.

- The Office of Student Financial Support prepares a personalized funding package for each student in the funded cohort every year.
- The majority of students receive a package based on one of four types of packages.
- The type of funding package a student receives may vary from year to year as student circumstances change.
- The Office of Student Financial Support does not administer provincial government student financial aid applications, such as OSAP.
