Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Alberta crop, bee, or livestock operations

  • Retail businesses, restaurants, and food establishments

Eligible expenses

  • Capital expenses for processing equipment, food safety equipment, software systems, and related engineering
  • Non-capital professional fees, training, testing, validation studies, and certification audits
  • Market development costs such as feasibility studies, market readiness assessments, export or marketing plans, and trade show fees
  • Travel expenses that comply with the program travel policy
  • Label, packaging, translation, and product launch materials for eligible new product or market activities

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Purchase or construction of real property or structural works
  • Aquaculture, aquaponics, and seafood processing activities
  • Advertising, sponsorships, and product giveaways
  • Website, e-commerce, and ongoing online marketing costs
  • GST, shipping costs, lease costs, and ongoing overhead expenses

How to apply

  • Step 1: Check eligibility
    • Review the program terms and conditions.
    • Confirm the proposed activities are listed in the funding list.
    • Contact program staff if you need help with eligibility questions.
  • Step 2: Complete the application form
    • Download and complete all sections of the application form.
    • Read Part F carefully before signing.
    • Print and sign the signature page by hand.
  • Step 3: Prepare supporting documents
    • Gather required quotes or invoices for expenses.
    • Include supporting documents such as financial statements, proof of secured funding, business plan, or market studies if relevant.
  • Step 4: Submit the application
    • Email the completed form and scanned signature page, or mail the application to the program address in Edmonton.
    • Submit within 90 calendar days of the project start date.

Processing and Agreement

  • Applications are reviewed and assessed against eligibility and merit criteria
  • The minister may request additional information during review
  • Applicants are notified of the outcome once assessment is complete
  • Successful applicants must accept an approval letter or sign a grant agreement, depending on the grant amount
  • Final report and reimbursement claim are required before payment is issued
