Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Registered farms.
  • Community pastures.
  • Mi'kmaq conducting farming activities in Mi'kmaw communities.

Eligible expenses

  • Generators and battery storage.
  • Permanent and portable fencing for crop and bee protection.
  • Mechanical deterrent devices, crop netting, and scare devices.
  • Livestock guard animals and guard dog training.
  • Contracted or in-kind labour for permanent fencing installation.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • Travel expenses.
  • Administrative and general overhead.
  • Buildings, building modifications, and sea containers.
  • Operating expenses and existing staff wages or salaries.
  • HST, transfer switches, and installation for Stream 1.

Eligible geographic areas

  • Nova Scotia.
  • Eligible project locations include selected counties in Nova Scotia.

Selection criteria

  • Applications are assessed as they are received.
  • Funding is subject to availability.
  • The Department may limit the amount awarded to an applicant or associated applicants.

Processing and Agreement

  • Complete applications are reviewed by the Department of Agriculture as they are received.
  • If approved, applicants receive a Letter of Agreement with the funding terms and conditions.
  • The applicant must review, sign, and return the Letter of Agreement within 30 days.
  • A claim form is sent after the signed agreement is received.
  • Claims are paid only after supporting invoices and proof of payment are submitted.

Additional information

  • Applicants new to Programs since 2023 must complete the Program Funding Registration form.
  • Returning applicants must update the registration form with any changes.
  • Only one application is allowed per year.
  • A Letter of Agreement must be signed and returned within 30 days if approved.
