The OAC Literary Organizations Projects grant offers up to $12,000 to support the professional presentation, promotion, and publishing of Canadian literature in Ontario. Eligible activities include festivals, performance series, sector development, and the publication of literary books and magazines.

  • The applicant must be an Ontario-based ad hoc group, collective, or not-for-profit arts organization for festival, performance series, and sector development categories.
  • For literary book and magazine publishing categories, the applicant must be a not-for-profit arts organization or an eligible for-profit publisher with a permanent physical address in Ontario.
  • For-profit publishers must be Canadian-owned and controlled, with at least 50% of employees and management functions located in Ontario.
  • Publishers must publish primarily in English, be able to make independent editorial decisions, and pay contributors' fees or royalties through contracts.
  • Applicants must meet all relevant program and Ontario Arts Council general eligibility criteria at the time of application and for the duration of the project.

  • Municipalities, colleges, and universities, including magazines managed or primarily written by students, or publishers organizationally/editorially controlled by these institutions.
  • Publishers whose publications are mainly produced by students as part of academic activities.
  • Publishers that require contributors to pay fees or to purchase their own published work.
  • Current recipients of operating grants from specified Ontario Arts Council programs (except for certain organizations serving priority groups).

  • Step 1: Review Program GuidelinesRead the Guide to OAC Project Programs for details on eligibility requirements and other program restrictions.
  • Consult additional guides, such as the Nova User Guide, Guide to OAC Assessment, and Guide to OAC Support Material, as needed.
  • Step 2: Register or Update Profile in NovaCreate a profile or update your existing information in Nova, the Ontario Arts Council’s online grant application system.
  • Step 3: Prepare Application MaterialsCompile basic information about your project.
  • Answer all application questions provided in the Nova system.
  • Develop a detailed project budget.
  • Gather artistic examples documenting relevant recent activities or participating artists; for publishers, assemble physical or digital copies of eligible books or recent issues.
  • Collect additional support documents, such as organizational history, key participant bios, catalogues, brochures, posters, programs, flyers, and video or other relevant materials.
  • Step 4: Complete and Submit Application in NovaFill out the application form in Nova, which will be available approximately two months before the deadline.
  • Upload all required materials as outlined above.
  • Submit the completed application by the specified deadline (April 8, 2025, 1 p.m. ET).
  • Step 5: Confirmation and Next StepsWait for the Ontario Arts Council to review your application; results will be communicated approximately four and a half months after the deadline.
  • If awarded a grant, complete the funded project according to program requirements.
  • Step 6: Submit Final Report in NovaUpon project completion, log in to Nova to submit a final report documenting the project, outcomes, and a final budget.
  • Provide documentation showing recognition of OAC and the Government of Ontario (e.g., logos on promotional materials).
