Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • There are no restrictions on who can apply for NCP research funding.

Ineligible Costs and Activities

  • General purpose personal gear and items that are required as basic necessities for Northern work and that are purchased for individuals (parkas, boots, etc.)
  • Personal computers, phones and tablets, except where they relate to specific objectives of a project and are not general equipment for an employee or graduate student
  • Federal departments are ineligible to request administrative expenses

  • Proposals for work to be conducted outside these regions will be considered on a case-by-case basis according to their relevance to the various NCP Blueprints.

Selection criteria

  • Scientific excellence/expertise of principal investigator and team
  • Clarity and scope of objectives
  • Clarity, adequacy and inter-comparability of methodology
  • Suitability of proposal design for meeting the objectives
  • Appropriateness of time frame and budget

How to apply

  • Read the NCP Call for Proposals 2026 proposal submission guidelines, including proposal requirements, preparation documents, community engagement requirements, and NCP priorities and objectives.
  • Complete a proposal using the Proposal template.
  • Complete Budget tables 1 and 3 using the Budget template.
  • Complete Community engagement forms in collaboration with relevant northern organizations.
  • Email the complete proposal package to plcn-ncp@rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca.
  • Copy all project team members on the email submission.

Processing and Agreement

  • Submitted proposals are reviewed by peer reviewers, technical review teams and Regional Contaminants Committees.
  • The NCP Management Committee makes the final funding decisions in April.
  • Notifications are sent to applicants on the status of their proposal(s) in May.
  • Funding agreements are prepared and signed beginning in June.
