Eligibility and reference guidance updated
The Marcella Linehan Scholarship page now says the annual award is for a registered nurse or nurse practitioners completing a Master of Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Program, while the IEN Bridging Scholarship updates the standing requirement to a current RN practicing license in good standing with the NL College of Nurses and explicitly addresses Inactive (On Leave) registration. The IEN Bridging-RN & Re-Entry Scholarship Reference page has also been expanded from a bare title into a full reference form, with applicant and referee fields, reference instructions, and a warning that missing references can jeopardize the applicant’s ability to meet scholarship requirements. The reference page also now shows referee contact details and the Trust mailing address at 1033 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 5E9.

Who is eligible?
- Registered Nurses.
- Nurse Practitioners.
- Registered Nurses working in any practice setting or employment position.
- Students enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs at NL schools of nursing.
- Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners enrolled in Master of Nursing, Doctorate of Nursing, or non-nursing Master's or Doctorate programs.
- Registered Nurses who completed the IEN Bridging Program or RN Re-Entry Program through the Centre for Nursing Studies.
Who is not eligible
- Prior recipients of a scholarship are not eligible to re-apply for that scholarship.
Eligible expenses
- Self-paid costs of continuing education events and programs relevant to nursing practice.
Eligible geographic areas
- Bay St. George area, defined to include the South Western area of the province starting at Long Point in the District of Port Au Port, east to Gallants and Bay St. George Districts.
Selection criteria
- The Undergraduate Studies Committee ranks some applicants on academic ability, potential contribution to the nursing profession, and financial need.
- Preference is given to applicants who have completed at least one year of their program.
- Preference is given to graduates of the General Hospital School of Nursing, St. John's, NL, for as long as there are alumni remaining.
- If there are no suitable Doctorate of Nursing applicants, the scholarship may be awarded to an applicant enrolled in a Master of Nursing program; if there are no applicants completing a thesis or clinical project with a respiratory focus, it may be awarded to an applicant with demonstrated professional practice in respiratory care.
How to apply
- Review the relevant Application Requirements document before beginning the application.
- Complete the application using the online application form.
- Submit the application by the deadline; late applications will not be considered.
- Ensure all supporting documentation is received by the application deadline.
Processing and Agreement
- Funding decisions for the Fall competition will be made in mid-late November, and applicants will be notified whether or not their application is successful within 5 working days of the committee meeting by email.
- The Trust is no longer able to respond to individual requests for information regarding the status of an application.
- Trust Research Awards must be claimed within 12 months of the award date.
- One extension may be granted if a request is received prior to the expiry date, includes a reasonable explanation, and is approved by the Research Awards Committee.
- All research proposals submitted to the Trust must meet Tri-Council standards for ethical research.

- Applicants will be notified whether or not their application is successful within 5 working days of the committee meeting, and notifications will be sent via email using the address provided in the application.
