NL Registered Nurses' Education & Research Trust Funding Program

• Research proposal, which must not exceed 10 single spaced typewritten 8.5x11 pages, excluding references and appendices.

Who is eligible?

• Registered Nurses.
• Nurse Practitioners.
• Registered Nurses working in any practice setting or employment position.
• Students enrolled in Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs at NL schools of nursing.
• Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners enrolled in Master of Nursing, Doctorate of Nursing, or non-nursing Master's or Doctorate programs.
• Registered Nurses who completed the IEN Bridging Program or RN Re-Entry Program through the Centre for Nursing Studies.

Who is not eligible

• Prior recipients of a scholarship are not eligible to re-apply for that scholarship.
• Recipients of the NLNRS Legacy Scholarship are not eligible to reapply for the scholarship at the same education level.

Eligible expenses

• Self-paid costs of continuing education events and programs relevant to nursing practice.

Eligible geographic areas

• Bay St. George area, defined to include the South Western area of the province starting at Long Point in the District of Port Au Port, east to Gallants and Bay St. George Districts.

• For the IEN Bridging Scholarship, applicants are ranked on academic ability, potential contribution to the nursing profession, personal statement, and financial need; personal financial information is not used.
• For the Graduate Nursing Scholarship, all Master of Nursing applicants are considered for both the Trust Master of Nursing Scholarship and the Dr. Elizabeth Summers Graduate Study Award, and the award goes to the highest-ranked applicant in that category.
• For the Graduate Nursing Scholarship and Graduate Non-Nursing Scholarship, preference is given to applicants who have completed at least one year of their program.
• For the Marcella Linehan Scholarship, preference is given to graduates of the General Hospital School of Nursing, St. John's, NL, for as long as there are alumni remaining.
• For the NLNRS Legacy Scholarship, if there are no suitable Doctorate of Nursing applicants, the scholarship may be awarded to a Master of Nursing applicant; if no respiratory thesis or clinical project applicants are available, it may be awarded to an applicant with demonstrated professional practice in respiratory care.

• Review the relevant Application Requirements document before beginning.
• Complete the application using the online application form.
• For some bursaries, use the academic application form; for Bay St. George Chapter Scholarship and Violet Ruelokke Primary Health Care Award in the Fall competition, use the Graduate Nursing Scholarship application and reference forms.
• Submit the application by the deadline; late applications will not be considered.
• Ensure all required supporting documentation is received by the deadline, including by CRNNL House for IEN Bridging/RN Re-Entry applications.

• Funding decisions for the Fall competition will be made in mid-late November, and applicants will be notified whether or not their application is successful within 5 working days of the committee meeting by email.
• The Trust is no longer able to respond to individual requests for information regarding the status of an application.
• Trust Research Awards must be claimed within 12 months of the award date.
• One extension may be granted if a request is received prior to the expiry date, includes a reasonable explanation, and is approved by the Research Awards Committee.
• All research proposals submitted to the Trust must meet Tri-Council standards for ethical research.

• All application notifications are sent via email, so applicants should use an address they check regularly.
• The Trust no longer responds to individual requests for information regarding application status.
