Eligibility
Who is eligible?
- Any member of NGen (Canada’s advanced manufacturing Supercluster).
- Small or Medium Enterprises with less than 500 employees globally.
- For-profit organizations.
- Not-for-profit organizations that facilitate and fund research and development and whose funding is received primarily from private-sector organizations.
Who is not eligible
- Publicly funded not-for-profit organizations.
- Post-secondary institutions.
- Federal Crown corporations.
- Government departments or agencies.
- International organizations without an incorporated presence in Canada.
Eligible expenses
- Personnel salaries and wages for personnel based in Canada and working directly on the project.
- Subcontracted work essential to the success of the project, where the expertise does not exist among the partners.
- New equipment, rentals, and direct operation and maintenance costs.
- Service fees and subscription or license fees directly related to the project.
- Materials consumed by the project, room or facility rentals, conference costs with a direct link to project activities, travel costs in accordance with the National Joint Council Travel Directive, patent protection costs, and publication costs of project results.
Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Experimental or theoretical work without any direct commercial application or use.
- Production activities themselves or activities that subsidize full scale production.
- Capital investment for production or for purposes not related to the project.
- Activities that could be viewed as anti-competitive.
- Routine or periodic changes made to existing products, production lines, manufacturing processes, services and other operations in progress.

Selection criteria
- Applications are scored on 10 questions, worth 10 marks each.
- Responses are equally weighted in the assessment.
- Only the highest scoring projects are recommended for funding.
How to apply
- Join NGen as an organizational member.
- Select the funding stream under the Supercluster projects heading.
- Log in to the application portal using your NGen account credentials.
- Complete the project screening requirements, including the Application Agreement and project details.
- Submit the application through the portal after screening.
Processing and Agreement
- NGen will screen proposals to confirm basic eligibility before the full application is completed.
- Applicants must complete an Application Agreement and certify they meet project requirements.
- Applications are assessed by up to five external experts selected by NGen.
- The application process is competitive and only the highest scoring projects are recommended for funding.
- Each project application is scored out of 100 marks across 10 questions, with responses equally weighted.
- Applicants whose projects are not recommended for approval receive a summary of the evaluation and may re-apply.
