Eligibility

Who is eligible?

  • Applicants for agricultural insurance under this Plan.
  • Seed potato producers.
  • Persons who, after the first day of May in a crop year, purchase land on which an insurable potato crop is planted.

How to apply

  • Submit the application on a form provided by the Commission.
  • File the application with the Commission no later than the first day of May in the crop year unless the date is extended by the Commission.
  • Include all potatoes grown by the applicant on land owned or used by the applicant.
  • If the application is filed after the first day of May because land was purchased with an insurable potato crop planted, submit it for the balance of the crop year on the Commission’s form.
  • Attach the premium determined by the Commission for that late application.

Processing and Agreement

  • If an application for insurance is accepted, the applicant receives a certificate of agricultural insurance on a form provided by the Commission.
  • Coverage takes effect on the date of the application or the first day of the crop year, whichever is later.
  • The Commission may insure only a portion of the applicant’s declared acreage.
  • If the insured does not file the insured acreage report, the Commission may prepare one or terminate the contract by written notice and refund any premium paid for the crop year.
