Grass Roots Grant guidelines updated
The Grass Roots Grant guidelines are now shown with a current effective date of April 30, 2025, and the program details are more complete than before. The page now states a 50/50 matching grant up to $4,000, a minimum application amount of $150 to $4,000 for neighbourhood grant streams, deadlines of March 1 and July 1, completion within six months of funding, and contact information for Madison Metcalfe at 604.793.2904 and mmetcalfe@chilliwack.com. Who is eligible?
- Groups of two or more residents of Chilliwack.
- Project working groups with at least two residents from separate households within the neighbourhood.

Ineligible Costs and Activities
- Retro-active expenses.
- Any item that will revert to private ownership.
- Travel expenses, fundraising activities, and volunteer honorariums.

Eligible geographic areas
- Municipal (public) lands only.
- The applicant group's neighbourhood, defined as the local area surrounding a residence, including the block or street and the immediately surrounding area.
Selection criteria
- Applications are rated according to support levels in six focus areas: improves community and individual health and/or quality of life; engages citizens/community; reaches a diverse population; has an economic impact on the community; builds community, including collaborations and partnerships; provides a program or service that is unique and not duplicated by another organization.
- City staff rate and prioritize applications and forward their recommendations to Council for final review and approval of selected projects.
- If all funds are not allocated after the second intake period, applications received after the deadline are considered on a first come first serve basis.
- Priority is given to groups that have not previously received a grant.
How to apply
- Visit chilliwack.com/neighbourhoodgrants and fill out the online form.
Processing and Agreement
- Applications are reviewed twice per year, with submission deadlines on March 1 and July 1.
- Applicants are notified within four weeks of the intake deadline, and some applicants may be asked to submit further information before a final decision.
- City staff rate and prioritize applications and forward recommendations to Council for final review and approval; the City of Chilliwack Council’s decision is final.
- Successful applicants must sign a letter of agreement and provide proof of any applicable insurance coverage; funding is released after the signed agreement is received.
- Successful applicants must recognize the City’s financial assistance on formal promotions and communications, complete a short project evaluation form, provide a final budget, and return any unused funds.
